PLAX view of pericardial tamponade. A large hypoechoic rim can be seen surrounding the chambers of the heart (the top and bottom dark areas on the screen). The hyperechoic right ventricular wall can be seen collapsing in systole, indicating significantly high pericardial pressures and tamponade. In the very right lower part of the screen, the posterior wall of the left atrium can also be seen moving upward as it collapses under the increased pericardial pressure.
Subcostal 4 chamber view demonstrating 2-3cm thickness pericardial fluid with marked compression of the right atrium in the lower part of the screen and the right ventricle in the upper right side of the screen, indicating significant tamponade.
