PSAX mitral valve view demonstrating the fishmouth appearance of a normal mitral valve seen in cross section with the circular left ventricular muscle surrounding it. The valve leaflets can be seen co-apting normally and the valve area (when fully open) can be measured in this view. Above and to the left of the LV is the RV cavity. Posteriorly the highly echogenic pericardium can also be seen.
